The Best Homemade Dog Treats

These Homemade Carrot & Peanut Butter Dog Treats are made with natural and fresh ingredients that your puppy-dogs will love!

One of the best things I look forward to when coming home is the happiness and love my furbabies give me the minute I walk in the door. They greet me and cry as if I was gone for a long time, and it gets me every time.

After I get settled in the house, they wait patiently by this cabinet we call the ‘treat cabinet.’ It’s routine; they always know momma is about to give them a treat because they behaved at home, alone. They get treats all day long, but there are days I make batches of biscuits that are special treats.

Vegan Dog Treats

Knowing that our furbabies are eating natural and healthy ingredients is important to us. Some of the treats we purchase smell disgusting, and half of the time, I can’t even say their ingredients. Love your furbabies and treat them with delicious goodies, and they will love you for it!

Carrot and Peanut Butter Flavored Dog Treat Ingredients:

  • Flax egg: Flaxseed and water (makes these treats vegan and adds additional nutrients).
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – We love using Wild Friends Creamy Peanut Butter because it only has salt listed in its ingredients.
  • Coconut oil Research has shown that coconut oil has many health benefits for our littles ones; therefore, we used it here in this recipe. Feel free to use sunflower or olive oil here.
  • Shredded Carrots – Gives the treats extra crunch and flavor.
  • Whole wheat flour – Has a nutty flavor and more nutrients than regular all-purpose flour. However, all-purpose flour can be used if you don’t have any whole wheat flour on hand.
  • Baking Powder – Only a small quantity is used. Plus, they make these treats fluffy in texture.
  • Peanut Butter Icing: Peanut butter and coconut oil. This yummy combo will have your pups begging for more. Therefore, don’t skip out on this icing!

 Storage:

Store these dog treats in a cookie jar or a glass container for up to 1 week, depending on how many pups you have and how many treats you give them a day.

East Homemade Dog Treats

These dog treats are made from the ♥ & I hope your puppy-dogs love them! They are made with carrots for crunch and peanut butter, because what dog does not go crazy for peanut butter?! & then topped with a coconut-peanut butter glaze for extra deliciousness! I am confident your dogs will love these because our pickiest dog (Dazy) walks away from treats all the time and only eats the yummiest ones, like these biscuits here!

Homemade Carrot & Peanut Butter Flavored Dog Treats
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Yields 20 biscuits
Ingredients
  • cup creamy peanut butter We used Wild Friends Creamy Peanut Butter
  • ¼ cup coconut oil melted, but not hot
  • 1 cup packed shredded carrots
  • 2 flax eggs 2 tablespoons flaxseed and 4 tablespoons water
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour or substitute with all-purpose flour
Coconut-Peanut Butter Glaze
  • ¼ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
Instructions
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the flax eggs in a bowl by adding 2 tbsp ground flaxseed with 4 tbsp of water. Mix and let the mixture sit for a few minutes or until it becomes sticky (consistency of an egg white).
  • Add melted coconut oil, creamy peanut butter, and shredded carrots to the bowl and mix to combine.
  • Add flour and baking powder on top of the mixture, tossed together first, then mix until a dough is formed.
  • Sprinkle about 1 tsp of flour on a smooth surface and roll out the dough to 1 cm thick. Use a biscuit cutter to make shapes (or use a top of a glass). Carefully transfer cut dough to the baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Make Peanut Butter Icing while the treats are baking.  Whisk together 2 teaspoons of coconut oil with 1/4 cup of peanut butter.  Microwave for 10 seconds and whisk again until the icing becomes soft and smooth.
  • Remove the treats from the oven and let them cool completely.
  • Once the treats are cooled, drizzle the icing on top and place them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, or until the icing hardens. Treat your pups with one of these treats.

I’m excited to make these for my doggo’s! I make their food myself so I know they will be excited as well about these cookies! I’ll check back in with the outcome. Too bad there’s nowhere to put a picture of my boys with their happy faces.

Such a pretty dog. Is that a Husky? These cookies look good enough for anyone to eat.

Do you know of a good recipe for kitty-cats?

    • Yes, she is a Husky! 🙂 Hmm, treats for kitty-cats? I will have to start experimenting! Our cat is just as picky as our Husky so if we can get her to eat any homemade treats, then I will share one! 🙂
